First day testing at Silverstone

Ralf Schumacher set the pace on the opening day of testing this week at Silverstone. The under-fire Toyota driver finished the day 0.1s ahead of McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa, but set his pace during a qualifying lap simulation run.

Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber was third fastest but his car stopped on track in the afternoon. Ferrari tester Luca Badoer also had technical problems during the day as did Heidfeld and Liuzzi. The most dramatic incident of the day came when Williams tester Kazuki Nakajima went off track in the finals sector and damaged the car's front wing in the morning. Spyker was the only other team in action, testing both Adrian Valles and Giedo van der Garde.Rain was expected, but it held off all day allowing plenty of running. The three-day test continues tomorrow.
